Children will be immersed in the beauty of living soil. By the end of the week, each child will have sown seeds, tended to plants, and harvested from our gardens. We will teach the importance of the many components to composting and how they can build a healthy, living soil by composting many of the items they see and use daily.
Animals are SO important to our everyday life on the farm and we will teach each group how to care for and handle the animals safely, respectfully and properly. Children will have hands-on education with the role that each animal plays on our farm. From recycling all of our food wastes, chickens for eggs, rabbits for manure and to cattle for our main focus of the farm.
Children will learn the entire process from collecting the eggs in the boxes to selling them at our farm store! As they harvest all of the bounty from things they have nurtured, they will leave with the knowledge on how to obtain a greener future.
Everyday, lunch will be spent out on our beautiful land. Counselors will take children up one of four, easy trails to a nice picnic area for lunch. There is nothing like finding the perfect hiking stick and sitting on a blanket with a lunch in the mountains.
Each day we will take time to slow down, enjoy great conversations and tell creative stories while we make a sustainable or simply fun craft! From a pots painted and sown with love, nature art, to beautiful bird feeders; all of the crafts are sure to be one of the favorite parts of the day!
Ms. Danielle creates the best learning pods! Each learning pod will include an interactive lesson, a social/emotion craft/class and a social lunch. This is a great opportunity for children to have a "class" that they work together with and create beautiful friendships and memories that will last!
Each week we will focus on a different herb and are more than excited to use Herb Fairies' beautiful curriculum! Each week we will have an herb that we focus on. We will read a beautiful story, sow our own herb seed, go on a hiking adventure to find our useful herbs in the wild, and each child will have a their very own Herbal Roots Magazine to engage in all week and then bring home for the family to enjoy!

All of our counselors abide by Garfield County Health Code for interacting with farm animals and compost for educational purposes; and are thoroughly trained in our Policies and Procedures. To be proactive we provide clean gloves for each child to use during animal care, composting and gardening; and will be sanitized at the end of each day. Children will wash hands before and after entering any restroom facilities, animal enclosures, gardens or greenhouses.
We are always watching several sources for weather and environmental hazards. We will NOT hold camp if any dangers are suspected. We will reschedule when conditions permit.
All children must arrive to our camp in appropriate clothing for the weather conditions. We will hold camp with light rain, windy or chilly days. Dress accordingly. We do have a greenhouse and other buildings so children are not standing in the weather for the duration of camp.
Rooted in Nature's Policies and Procedures, Safety and Evacuation Plans are in the office and are available for review at any time. All counselors receive a separate training on our procedures on keeping your children safe and in the best hands possible.
